7 Simple Gratitude Practice Rituals
Expressing gratitude gives us an opportunity to embrace all that makes our lives what they are. Gratitude represents the willingness to expand our attention so that we perceive and actively acknowledge the goodness we are receiving.
Below are 7 simple ways children (and adults!) can cultivate a gratitude ritual into their lives:
Share your favorite part of the day with your family. Dinner or bedtime are great moments for this.
Commit to doing something (simple) for someone else, every day. Things like holding the door open, cleaning your room without being asked, calling your grandma to chat, bringing in your neighbor’s garbage bins, etc.
Start a family gratitude jar. Put genuine messages of gratitude into the jar when you are having a feeling of gratitude.
Notice and take in the small moments in life. Observe the flowers around you, the shadows they make on a wall or sidewalk. Notice the look on your friends or loved ones’ faces when they are experiencing joy or sharing an interesting story.
Write a letter or make a list of gratitude to someone you care about and read it to them.
Send an audio message to someone you care about expressing your gratitude. Thank them for something specific, or just tell them the reasons you think they’re amazing.
